Lennox Lewis Falls to Hasim Rahman?

My Press

Saturday, April 21

Come on Lewis didn't you train at all for this fight? Well he did, but not enough and not completely.

Lewis was definitely overlooking Rahman towards Tyson or maybe Wlademir Klitschko and probably thought he would knock Rahman out in a couple rounds or Rahman would fold under the pressure of such a big event. Instead Hasim Rahman came to fight.

He arrived in South Africa many weeks before Lewis and trained himself to the altitude - 5200 ft. above sea level. Rahman trained, watched film on Lewis, and worked out a winning plan, just incase Lewis did take him lightly. Meanwhile Lewis was shooting scenes for a movie, hanging out with Hollywood, and enjoying the good life.

Rahman was mentally ready before the fight and it showed during the fight. Commentator Jim Lampley of HBO mentions how composed Rahman seemed during the fight. Hasim Rahman counter punched Lewis effectively, he hit Lewis to the body repeatedly thus taking what little air Lewis had, and connected with right hands to the face of Lewis many times.

Though Rahman was doing all the right things to win the fight, the score was very even before the knockout and I am pretty sure Lewis had the upper hand. Lennox Lewis was throwing some mean punches and was starting to hurt Rahman. The fight became a, whoever hits who with the hardest punch wins type of fight and two hard rights from Rahman were the difference.

This will be a wake-up call for Lewis just like the Oliver McCall loss was back in 1992. Lennox Lewis will be back and probably win a championship, but against who. Lewis gets a rematch after the next Rahman title fight. By then the champ could be Mike Tyson if Rahman decides to go for the money fight in his next fight.

I will not count Rahman out of any future fight, because he showed that he has guts and a strong will to train and win, but if he fights Tyson he will be a wealthy ex-champ.

Good luck Hasim Rahman you are the man now and I hope you make the best of it.
